Support Groups

Support Groups1.png

Since there are many new residents at Kendal, many may not know of the existence of two support groups that meet on a monthly basis.

There is the Support Group for Parkinson's disease (for both sufferers as well as family and friends).

There is also a group for parents and grandparents of special needs children.

In addition, there is the Loss Committee which deals with all personal and family loss.

Information on all these groups can be obtained from Loss Committee Chair Bob Sanders.

New Trip

The Trips Committee announced a new trip scheduled for Wednesday, October 11.
This excursion will take the group to the Jacob Burns Film Center Media Arts Lab in Pleasantville.

Participants will be able to visit the Center's state-of-the-art film production facilities ending with a short screening of students' work.

Everyone at Kendal loves "The Burns."  Seeing its production and educational facilities will be a rare treat.

Sign up sheets are in the Trips Book in the hall opposite the Computer Room.

Meet the Candidates

The candidates running for seats on the Residents Council will appear together at a Meet the Candidates Night on Monday, Sept. 11 at 7:30 pm. They will share their views and answer your questions. Come out and support them!

Election Nights are Sept. 13 and 14 from 5 - 7 pm in the Residents Lounge. There are nine candidates for six open seats on the Council. Each and every vote will be important.

Results will be announced on Sept. 15.

Kendal Swap

Swap.png

At last count, there were 14 Kendals throughout the United States.

Last year Kendal's "National Office" introduced a program whereby residents of one Kendal could swap apartments with residents from another for limited periods of time. It's a great vacation idea.

This year, Jane Beers, Sheila Darnborough and Cobb Stewart have linked up for a week of Southern life with John South and Dianne Herrick of Kendal at Lexington (Virginia) beginning Saturday, Sept. 9. John and Dianne will get a taste of life in the Lower Hudson Valley and be a short trip away from New York City.

It should be a wonderful change for all involved. We look forward to welcoming our "cousins" from the South.

Choristers Needed!

Choristers, both long-time participants and those who would like to try singing with the group for the first time, are invited.

The first rehearsal will take place on Thursday, Sept. 14, from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm.

The Chorus will be led, as it has in the past, by Catherine Nesbit, a "super star" conductor, and will continue to meet weekly at the same time (as above) to prepare for the Winter Concert on Monday, Dec. 18.

Questions? Contact Doris Appleby.

Transportation Committee Meeting

Transportation Advisory Committee.png

The transportation services that Kendal on Hudson offers to its residents are critical to their well-being. They are especially important to those that do not own automobiles. Transportation to shopping and medical appointments are particularly vital. Kendal's three drivers try their best to accommodate all the residents' needs.

On Friday, Sept. 8, the Transportation Advisory Committee will meet at 11:00 am in the Gathering Room so that the residents will have an opportunity to discuss the available services.

Suggestions and comments will be welcome.

The meeting is open to everybody.
