Music Channels on KoH TV

In case you didn’t know it, there are music channels on TVs at Kendal. Every apartment has them at no extra cost. They are channels 1800 to 1849.

Residents can use the GUIDE button on the REMOTE CONTROL to see what is available. 

They can choose from OLDIES, POP, ROCK, EASY LISTENING, MUSIC OF THE 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, etc.  There are also LATIN music channels, MOVIE music, JAZZ, BLUES, and COUNTRY.  

Channel 1848 plays CLASSICAL MASTERPIECES.  Channel 1849 plays LIGHT CLASSICS.  All of these channels are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

A Zoom Workshop on Streaming - November 20, 2 pm-3 pm

The Computer Committee has announced a Zoom Workshop on Streaming.

Streaming is a way of receiving movies and other video content over the Internet. The content can be viewed on a TV, computer, tablet, or smartphone.

The workshop will address the following topics:

1) What is streaming? Why might you want to do it?

2) What do you need to do it?

3) How do you do it?

4) What content is free and what requires payment or membership?

5) How do you navigate the screen?

The Workshop is scheduled for Friday, November 20, 2 pm-3 pm. All residents with an email address on the KoH list will receive an invitation to the Workshop on Thursday, November 19. To attend, click on the link a few minutes before 2 pm on Friday.

Thanksgiving Gift Bags

Unfortunately, travel plans for Thanksgiving 2020 are limited, but a seasonally decorated bottle on the dinner table always makes a cheerful sight. 

The ‘Bottle Decorators’ will be selling their lovely gift bags on Thursday evening, November 19, 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, in the Lounge.

Shirley Miller and Sally Costa have been busy with wonderful fabric and ribbons and you will see the lovely results on Thursday.

The bags are $5 - IOUs are fine.  Please observe social distance when admiring and purchasing their handiwork. 

Proceeds go to the Tuesday and Friday Morning Clubs which we hope to restart next year.

Library News - The Kendal Library Catalog

The Library Committee announced a new and important addition, a KoH Library Catalog

Residents can now access an online catalog of the books in the KoH library from their own electronic devices to find out whether we have a wanted book and if it is currently available.

Of course, residents will still have to come to the library to get the book and check it out (by filling out a yellow slip) or to place a reserve.

To access the catalog from your device, open a browser (e.g. Safari, Chrome, Firefox), type in

librarycat.org/lib/2blackcats - and hit enter.

The catalog, we believe, is self-explanatory and easy to use.

Kendal's Internal TV Channel Changes Location

For those of you (inside and outside of Kendal) who don’t know, Kendal has its own internal TV channel available only to TVs on its campus. A channel location change is about to take place.

KOH-TV Channel 1970 changes to 970 on November 9/10.

Verizon has announced that the Channel 1970 number will change to 970 by the morning of Tuesday, November 10. To view the channel from that time forward, residents are instructed to press only 970 on your remote—drop the “1”.

Please note that Verizon has not given a specific time for the change-over, only that it will be during the night of November 9/10.

Warner Library Offers a "Revolutionary Tarrytown" Virtual Program November 15

This program is free but pre-registration is required. Register with Warner Library by emailing mpetry@wlsmail.org with the subject “Revolutionary Tarrytown registration.” A link to join the program will then be sent to you via email.

Tarrytown played a crucial role in the achievement of American independence. This illustrated lecture describes events around Tarrytown during the Revolutionary War and examines the importance of the era’s legacy on its historical development, on regional identity, and on the formation of national character.

Presenter Erik Weiselberg, Ph.D., serves as the Village Historian in Irvington, teaches social studies at Irvington High School, and is the recipient of the 2020 Hudson River Patriots Chapter, NSDAR, and 2020 NYS DAR Outstanding Teacher of American History award.

This is an outstanding opportunity to learn more about the region’s history. It is both free and available in every resident’s apartment.
