KOH TV is Kendal on Hudson’s internal TV channel that transmits on Channel 1970. Its mission continues to be ensuring that Kendal residents, irrespective of their level of independence, have access to Kendal events in their own homes, by using communications technology to connect the Kendal world. Channel 1970 is one way of keeping people in the loop on some events. Standard programming continues with round-the-clock showing of still photos of Rue des Artistes exhibits, interrupted each afternoon by videos of Kendal activities, and each evening by transmitting the movie shown in the Gathering Room the previous evening.

The year was marked by another relocation of KOH TV Channel 1970 equipment to its new space on one side of the new Gathering Room. This caused a 24-hour interruption of service to restabilize KOH equipment. The move required consultation with professionals to check the compatibility of KOH TV equipment with the new A/V equipment with the following results:

·      KOH TV’s equipment for daily activities, while obsolete, continues to work and will continue to be used. This system has evolved from the creative use of hard- and software components for which no more conventional replacement is available now.

·      Some upgrading of equipment for transferring the TV signal from the new Gathering Room equipment to KOH’s will be required, and will be decided upon once the new A/V equipment is fully operational, anticipated within the next few months.

These professionals donated their time for this consultation for which, thank you.

Otherwise, there have been relatively few breaks in KOH TV service during the year.  However, round-the-clock still photos of Rue des Artistes have not been changed for much of this year. This requires more training which will be remedied.

Nevertheless, some residents continue to report problems with receiving Channel 1970. Most of these issues are resolved either by Verizon personnel, the correct resource to contact in such cases, or by training in using the FIOS remote.

Four residents have volunteered for the KOH TV Committee this year – Linda Bermas, Gisa Indenbaum, Frank Neuwirth and Eugene DuBow, and two have resigned – Amelia Augustus and Suzie Winter. As a result, KOH TV service has been maintained throughout the year. Thank you to this dedicated group of residents, particularly Marian Weinberg, for their consistent service. Volunteers with a technical bent are still needed.

A guide to using the Verizon remote control unit has been prepared by the Computer Committee.
