Responses to Questions/Comments on Commons Refresh Project
As of October 14, 2024
Dear Residents,
Numerous questions and comments have been received regarding the Commons Refresh Project. Attached to this document is a comprehensive list of all the questions received to date, along with responses. Some questions appear verbatim, while others have been summarized to address similar inquiries more efficiently.
In the coming weeks, there will be small group discussions with residents to provide further opportunities for dialogue about the project. The meeting dates are listed below, and we ask that each resident sign up for one session only to ensure that everyone has the chance to participate. Additional sessions will be added if needed.
October 22nd 3:00 to 4:30 Riverview Conference Room
November 1st 11:00 to 12:30 Private Dining Room
November 4th 10:00 to 11:30 Private Dining Room
The Board of Directors is fully committed to this initiative, which represents the largest strategic investment over the next two years. This project is crucial to our ongoing financial stability, ensuring we continue to invest in our community’s future. While every effort will be made to minimize disruptions, it is important to acknowledge that construction inherently brings challenges.
With nearly 300 residents in Independent Living, there are a wide variety of opinions regarding the project. While the major structural decisions have been finalized, the interior design process is ongoing. A separate committee, including resident representatives, is currently reviewing the architect’s proposals in this area.
We also received many questions related to dining operations, which are not all addressed in this document. We will hold town hall-style meetings as well as additional small group discussions on dining once the design conversations are complete. Furthermore, your operational questions will be answered once the phasing has been determined. The phasing discussions with the architects, the construction manager and the project team are actively underway. In the meantime, we will be reaching out directly to committee chairs to discuss specific needs during the construction. Please avoid making assumptions about service changes; while some services may be delivered differently or in alternative locations, we remain committed to maintaining as many services as possible throughout the process.
There are many complex components to this project, and the team is working through them in an order determined by critical pathways identified by the architects and the construction manager. Information will be shared with you as it becomes available, and your patience is appreciated as we navigate the process.
Sincerely,
Jean Eccleston CEO
