All residents must arrive back at Kendal prior to our ending hours, so please plan your pick-up time accordingly. The following guidelines will assist you in utilizing these services most effectively.
Doctors’ Appointments:
Residents wishing transportation to doctors’ offices will sign up at the receptionist’s desk in the Main Lobby. The sign-up book is marked Medical Appointments and should be filled out at least one day before the appointment. Residents should list a contact number, the location they are traveling to, and the time of their doctor's appointment.
Our drivers know how long it will take to get you there on time and have the final authority on scheduling. There may be a time when you will need to leave earlier than expected because of the schedule that day. A driver will contact you the day before your appointment to finalize the departure time from Kendal. Please be sure to arrive in the Main Lobby promptly. Otherwise, it may not be possible to provide scheduled transportation. Residents will be transported to the designated location and dropped off. When the appointment is completed, the resident should call the Front Desk receptionist (914-922-1000) to request a pickup.
The receptionist will contact the driver and give the resident an estimated pickup time and location. The drivers try to keep to a short pick-up time; however, there may be times when pick-ups are longer than expected due to traffic, short staffing, or the day’s schedule. Please be patient; however, if you choose to take a cab back from your appointment, you MUST notify the front desk so we can make sure all residents get back to Kendal safely. The resident should wait for pick up where the driver's arrival can be seen since, by Kendal policy, the driver cannot leave the car/van unattended. Please do not contact the Kendal receptionist until you finish your appointment.
Shopping:
A weekly shopping schedule is posted in Spotlight. On Tuesdays and Fridays, the drivers schedule trips to Tarrytown, Ossining, and Thornwood to shop at C Town, Stop & Shop, and ShopRite. When possible, they also try to accommodate other locations. Sign-up sheets are in a notebook marked Shopping and Train Schedule at the Front Desk.
To ensure the most efficient operation of our transportation services and for the benefit of all users, residents must show up on time for all scheduled departures, both when leaving and returning to Kendal. Residents should also bring their cell phones to communicate with the Front Desk.
Equipment and Drivers:
We have one wheelchair-accessible minivan, three passenger cars, and two buses. Each bus accommodates 12 people. Residents in wheelchairs will have their chairs transported in the van, and residents with walkers can be accommodated in any of the vehicles.
