Archives, 2016
Before Kendal on Hudson opened in 2005, resident Juanita Carmi started planning the Kendal Archive. An Archive is an active reference source of information about an organization, public or private. It is a repository of documents (paper, photographic, video, digitized, taped, etc.,) recording the who, what, when, where, how, and why of the people and the place.
Located in the Hudson Room on the T Level of the Mary Powell building, the Kendal on Hudson Resident Archive is divided into two time periods:
1) 1993 to 2005, from conception to realization:
The Study Group for Retirement Alternatives (SGRA) and the Community Connections Committee, including involvement with Kendal Corporation, the search for a site, marketing and pre-move-in meetings and organizing.
2) 2005 to present, including:
a) the Kendal System
b) the organization of the Kendal on Hudson Administrative and Service areas: such as the Director’s Office, Health Services, Facilities, Dining Services, Financial and Budget, etc.
c) the Residents’ Association and resident committees;
d) the Residents’ Council and sub-committees of the Council, such as the Election Committee, Dining Advisory Committee, Budget and Finance, etc.
e) Personal Histories: starting with the introductory posting and a filed form prepared by a new resident, either using the form, or created independently of the form by the resident.
f) photograph collection including those of pre-move-in meetings and different stages of construction. We hope to have available the tape recordings of the Kendal concerts, education presentations, Pat’s Fireside Chats, and administrative explanatory presentations on important issues,such as Health Insurance, Project Renew, the introduction of FIOS wireless. Some of these presentations, if recorded and part of our collection could be shown again by the A/V committee.

New residents are encouraged to create their own personal history file, using the Personal History Form. You can get one by clicking here.
Residents who wish to review the Archive may make an appointment with Beverly Child.
