Earth Day and Climate Marches

The KOH Residents Council was contacted by Pat Howard, the President of the Kendal at Collington (near Washington D.C.) about two marches that are scheduled, one for Earth Day and one dealing with Climate. They are to take place on April 22 and April 29 respectively.

Ms. Howard wanted to know if any of the KOH residents planned to attend. If so, Collington might be able to house people.

For more information please contact KOH Residents Council Chair, Fran Kelly.

New Trip to Onassis Cultural Center

The very active Trips Committee announced a trip to the Onassis Cultural Center in New York to view "A World of Emotions: Ancient Greece, 700 BC - 200 AD."

There are 130 masterpieces of Ancient Greek sculpture, vase paintings, theatrical masks, amulets, coins and much more

The trip is scheduled for Wednesday, May 3.

Sign-up is at the usual place opposite the Computer Room.

The Committee also notes that there is room on the April 19 trip to NYC for a "Do your own thing" day (Drop off the at the Met Museum). In addition the Copeland House trip on April 26 also has space available.

100 Years Old

There will be a celebration on Saturday, April 8, at 3:00 pm in the Gathering Room to honor Clara Eldridge on her 100th birthday.

She's great person (you know her. She's the one in the Blue Cowboy hat) and has reached a great birthday.

No gifts, please. If you wish to honor her make a contribution to the National Resources Defense Council or Planned Parenthood.

All are invited!

What Do We Do?

A question many of of us hear from friends and relatives is "What do you people at Kendal do with your time?" It is frequently followed by another question, " Do you sit around all day watching TV and waiting for the next meal?"

The answer frequently is "I'm so busy I just don't have time to do everything." All Kendal activity (outside the management of the facility) is coordinated by the Residents Association. Without it, as Kendal's Executive Director says, "We'd be a hotel with health care." So, what is it that takes up our time? The Resident Association has 29 committees-- all with active resident participants. Sometime in the future we'll talk about them.

For today, let's just post the "Regular Weekly Activities."  They are Art Activity, Bell Ringers, Bridge Group, Chorus, Circle Discussion, Faith Discussion, French Conversation, Meditation, Poetry Reading, Shakespeare, Short Story Reading, and Tuesday Morning Club. There is also a Friday Morning Club for residents in the Memory Support Unit (Sunnyside).

When you add the committees, the lectures, daily movies and concerts, the answer to the questions above is, "We do a lot."

Give and Take Table

One of the nice traditions at Kendal on Hudson is the Give and Take Table. Residents can give away items they no  longer use or want and, on the other hand, it is possible to find something you've been longing to have for ages.  No gift wrap required.

The table will be up from April 1 to April 7. Located on the T Level of the Mary Powell Building, it will be just to the right as you exit the elevator.

The bible teaches that it is  "...more blessed to give than to receive." However, to fulfill the blessing there has to be someone around to do the receiving. No matter which side of the equation you want to be on, check out the Give and Take Table 4/1 to 4/7.
