A January Trip

Jan Myers' never resting Trips Committee has lined up a trip to Met Breuer, New York for Wednesday, January 17th. 

There will be a self-guided tour of Edvard Munch: Between the Clock and the Bed, an exhibition of 43 landmark paintings created over 60 years by the Norwegian artist including 16 self-portraits and works being shown in the U.S. for the first time.

In addition you will be able to see Provocations: Anselm Kiefer at the Met Breuer featuring 34 works on paper and one painting from the Met collection by the 1945 German born artist.

Winter Concert

The Kendal Chorus will give a festive concert on Monday night Dec. 18 at 7:30 pm in the Gathering Room.

KoH's Choral Director Catherine Nesbit will be at the musical helm, with Sue Anderson, pianist, Barbara Doss, violinist, and ukulele player Stefan Kanfer, plus guest vocalists will assist as will everybody in a holiday sing-along. 

This performance is in the "Absolutely Don't Miss" category. 

New Year's Eve Spectacular

Kendal on Hudson's impresario Muriel Fox has put together a star-studded  New Year's Eve Spectacular show. It will take place in the Gathering Room at 8:00 pm. She is being aided by Jo-Ann Rapaport and Harriet Barnett. Frank Neuwirth will handled the audio-visual necessities.

The show will feature original songs offered by the Bob Singleton-led Kendal Singers. 

Skits and special performances by Bill Rakower, Lois Seulowitz, Wally Cooper, Jeff O'Donnell, Norman Sissman, Bill Seligman and Gail Evans will be featured. Gemma Maver returns as M.C. and Lila D'Adolf will be doing the piano accompanying. 

The glittering ball designed by Esther Steinmetz will be lowered by Nathan Saltzburg. It will ring in the Kendal New Year at 9:00 pm.

Following the show Sally and Joe Costa will chair the Champagne and Caviar Reception in the Lounge. 

The festivities come to a close with a sing-along of old time songs accompanied by Bob Singleton and Deb Wood.

Formal dress is suggested.

Hanukkah

Kendal on Hudson's Jewish community will celebrate Hanukkah this year with the lighting of the first candle on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 4:00 pm in the Main Lobby.

In addition, a Hanukkah service will take place on Friday, Dec. 15 at 4:30 pm in the Private Dining Room.

As always, everyone is invited. 

New Residents

Let's get out the welcome mat for two new couples who will be arriving before the end of the year.

Elliot and Alice Weinstein will be moving here from Hastings-on-Hudson. Elliot owned a printing company and Alice is a social worker.

Bill and Carol Lyons are leaving Irvington-on- Hudson for Kendal. Bill was a World War II fighter pilot. After that he graduated from MIT and became an advertising executive. Carol is a professional artist. 

Make sure to give them a big Kendal hello.

A Kendal View Invitation

Kendal View, the residents in-house magazine, is looking for contributions of reminiscences, fiction, non-fiction opinion pieces, photographs, or artwork from new (or old) residents. 

KV is distributed to all residents (and a few others) so it gets wide readership. This is an opportunity to exhibit your creative abilities and have them enjoyed by everyone at Kendal.

The editors, Pat Taylor and Norman Sissman, will be glad to assist in getting your material ready for publication and are ready to answer all your questions. 

Don't just think about it. Do it!

New Trip

The Trips Committee is starting off 2018 with a trip to the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers on Wednesday, January 10. 

This will be a docent tour of "Walk with Artists: The Hudson Valley and Beyond". 

The exhibition contains 40 paintings and prints from its outstanding collection. There will also be time to explore other exhibitions  such as "On the Homefront: World War I Posters" and Sylvia Sleigh's "Invitation to a Voyage". 

ALSO...Space is still available for the Dec. 13 Met Museum "Do Your Own Thing " trip.
