Future of the Forest: Rockefeller State Park Preserve Hosts Symposium on April 7

Pleasantville, N.Y., February 21, 2018)   On Saturday, April 7 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, Rockefeller State Park Preserve will host “Future of the Forest: Managing Change at Rockefeller Preserve and in Westchester County,” a free symposium in the Art Gallery at Rockefeller Preserve. The event features five of the leading forest experts in New York State and is free and open to the public. Registration is required.

The public is invited to hear Susan Antenen (Manager of Rockefeller Preserve for NYS OPRHP), Jerry Carlson (Forest Health Biologist for NYSDEC), Linda Rohleder (PRISM Coordinator and Stewardship Director of NY-NJ Trail Conference), Susan Booth-Binczik (Ph.D., Wildlife Biologist for NYSDEC), and Jeffrey Ward (Forest Researcher for CT Cooperative Extension) discuss Rockefeller Preserve’s forest management goals, ecological threats, and forest restoration considerations.

The towering hardwood forests of Rockefeller Preserve and Westchester County are valued for their beauty and recognized for their diverse native plants and animals. Today, tree disease, insect pests, invasive plants, and white-tailed deer are drastically changing local forests. Land management decisions made now will shape the forest for future generations.

Discover what is being done and what can be done to make our public lands as enjoyable for future generations as they are today. Please hurry, this event will fill up fast! To register, please call Julia Jardine at 914-631-1470 x107 or register online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/future-of-the-forest-managing-change-at-rockefeller-preserve-and-in-westchester-county-tickets-42675087335.
