Recycling News

Recycling1.png

At the Residents Council (RC) monthly meeting on May 13, co-chair Jeff O’Donnell announced that collection boxes for textiles will be set up at the next RC meeting. He and Ellen Ottstadt are volunteering to take men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, shoes and accessories (new and used but in good condition) to social service organizations in the area.

Residents appreciate their gracious help with this project.

A lead is being pursued for a potential taker of textiles that are no longer suitable as donations.

Collection bins for recyclable plastic glasses are now a part of social events. Please continue to deposit your used glasses in the bins and help us keep them out of the trash stream.

Van Tassel is happy to accept your wire hangers and intact plastic garment bags.

We reported earlier about Westchester County’s excellent recycling rate. This topic is the subject of an interview with Deputy Commissioner Vetrone, Dept. of Environmental Facilities, by Barrett Seaman of The Hudson Independent. You can listen to it on the paper’s website under ”Indy Talks.”

Questions? Contact Ursula Hahn, Kendal’s Recycling Committee Chair if you have questions about recycling.

Sleepy Hollow Village

Sleepy Hollow3.jpg

Kendal on Hudson can at times seem like a community unto itself. However, we should never forget that we are also citizens of the Village of Sleepy Hollow. So…

Please be aware that you will have an opportunity to meet with the newly re-elected Sleepy Hollow Village Board and the Mayor. They will join us in the Gathering Room on Tuesday, May 14 at 7:30 for an hour of updates and answering your questions.

In addition, we have the opportunity to vote on the yearly school budget, because the School Budget Elections will take place on Tuesday May 21, 2019. Transportation will be provided by KoH to the Morse School where the election will be held. If you will not be here on May 21 to vote, you may request an absentee ballot. Get this form, which needs to be mailed to the Board of Education, from Annette Leyden or Martin Smolin.

Tennis Anyone?

The warm weather is (almost) upon us. It’s time to get your rackets and balls out of the closet and sign up for outdoor tennis.

Kendal residents have unlimited access to a wonderful clay tennis court at Phelps – easy on the knees! Players at all levels are welcome. Phelps pays for reconditioning the court in the spring, and Kendal players pay for summer maintenance. It’s a great deal and not very expensive.

To join the tennis players’ email list and get more information, contact Wayne Richter.
