Neighbors Link.png

On Monday, May 24 at 7:30 pm, residents will have a chance to meet Carola Bracco, the Executive Director of “Neighbors Link” via Zoom.

Headquartered in Mount Kisco, Neighbors Link fills a service gap for new immigrant families, offering education and empowerment programs, involving longer-term residents in volunteer opportunities, and creating substantive partnerships with other local organizations.

Its strategies to educate, empower and employ families include a Worker Center, English as a Second Language (ESL) education, legal services and advocacy, workforce development, parent education, early childhood programs, and academic support for school-age children of immigrants.

Executive Director since 2004, Bolivian-born Carola Bracco spent 12 years in financial management with General Electric, Ford Motor, and Time Warner. She holds an MBA from Duke and serves on the boards of the National Council for Workforce Education, Nonprofit Westchester, and the NY Immigration Coalition.

Residents will receive a Zoom invitation so that they can learn about Neighbors Link.

Kendal Management on Masks

Masks.jpg

This note from Kendal Management was received on May 14th:

“We are aware that the CDC has now stated you do not have to wear masks if you are vaccinated. However, Kendal on Hudson must follow New York State guidance and the state has not yet said it will follow this recommendation. Therefore, all residents and staff must remain masked when walking throughout the community. We will continue to monitor state guidelines and will address any changes as they arise.”

Resident Away Forms

Search.jpg

Ellen Ottstadt, Director of Resident Services and Communication, reminds us that as the world starts to re-open and residents begin to venture out to visit friends and loved ones, it is important to fill out the resident away form at the front desk.

She notes that recently, residents did not notify us that they were going away, and then we were out looking for them to make sure they were safe.

“I encourage you to visit your loved ones; however, when you do,  please let your loved ones at Kendal know as well.”

Janet Schloat strongly suggests that residents consider running for one of the six open seats on the 2022-2023 Residents Council.

It’s up to each of us to keep our community vibrant, current, functioning, and relevant.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Look for your copy of the Election Committee letter, which was placed in your cubby on May 11, and submit your “Intent to Run” form by June 7. Just fill it out and email it, as instructed, or put in an envelope and place it in Janet’s cubby.

Used Clothing Collection

Used clothing 2.jpg

Once again, Kendal will initiate a Used Clothing Collection.

We are pleased to announce that the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) will accept used clothing beginning in June.

In our ZIP Code area, the company GreenDrop will pick up for the NFB on Thursdays between 7 am and 7 pm. We are focusing on a collection for Thursday, June 10.

The following items must be clean (no perfume odor) and in good condition: women’s and men’s coats, raincoats, jackets, pants, sweaters, shirts, dresses, blouses, hats, shoes and boots, ties, belts, underwear, sleepwear, swimsuits, handbags, purses.

More information and instructions will be distributed soon to all residents.

Recycling Paper Bags

paper bag.jpg

We have a simple suggestion for all residents who pick up their dinners in the Bistro.
Chairperson Ursula Hahn of the Sustainability & Recycling Committee requests that residents re-use their brown bags instead of asking for a new one each time.

Like the aluminum and plastic containers, these bags cost money, and the cost is factored into our monthly maintenance fees. Please be mindful!

The bags are not useful just lying around in apartments. Save and utilize them or don’t ask for them at all.

Peony Celebration

A message from Deb Wood

May 20, 6:30-7:30 pm online at www.friendsrock.org.

Rockefeller State Park Preserve will be holding a virtual Peony Celebration May 20. The Park has tree peonies, a gift I believe from Japan, received many years ago. This is a fundraiser, and you will be asked to contribute.

We are indeed lucky to have this resource so close by! Trails from Rockwood Hall Park, just north of Kendal, lead to the rest of the preserve, but that hike is a long one.
