TaSH Farmers Market

Farmers market.jpg

Through the efforts of KoH’s Transportation Advisory Committee, Kendal is pleased to announce van service to the TaSH Farmers Market in Tarrytown on Saturday, October 16, leaving Kendal at 11:00 am and returning by 12:30 pm.

The TaSH (Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow) Market is located in Patriots Park next to the Warner Library, with plenty of space for vendors and shoppers to stay safe by spreading out, and with wide, paved sidewalks which provide easy access for people with walkers.

“The atmosphere was perfect and SO uplifting!” reported one Kendal resident who visited the market with her walker. “Many dogs, all leashed and friendly … and many children strolling with their parents.”

Kendal van sign-up begins Friday, October 8. Twelve seats are available; there is a waiting list in case of cancellations.

Check out the list of vendors and sign up in the special TaSH Farmers Market notebook at the front desk.

Walking the Tappan Zee Bridge

Tappan Zee Walkway.jpg

Ready to Walk the Tappan Zee Bridge?

We plan to walk across the Tappan Zee Bridge (or, if you must, the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge) on a pleasant weekday. Are you interested? If so, please contact Jane Hart or Maria Harris, the Walk Organizers.

Here’s some information to help you decide:

To walk one way only, you can take the shuttle service back from commuter parking lots in Rockland and Westchester. The shuttle stops near the path’s landings in both Tarrytown and South Nyack.

Other information of interest:

• There are parking spots at Westchester Landing if we drive

• Possibly Kendal drivers could get us there and pick us up

• Length of path: 3.6 miles

• Number of overlooks: 6

• Approximate time to walk one way is 80 minutes. You may either walk back or return by the shuttle which runs every 20 minutes. A map, schedule and details are available on Hudson Link’s website.

As part of its COVID-19 response, Hudson Link is taking the following precautions:

• All passengers are required to wear face masks.

• All passengers are asked to sit six feet away from each other while on the bus.

• CDC approved industrial sanitizers are used nightly to clean each bus.

Dates, times, etc. will be announced.

COVID 19 Update - Booster Shots

Covid 19 update.jpg

The following COVID Update from Administration was received on September 29.

Regarding COVID-19 Booster Vaccines:

CDC recommends that the following groups should receive a booster dose of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least six months after completing their Pfizer-BioNTech primary vaccine series:

• People aged 65 years and older;

• Residents aged 18 and older in long-term care settings;

• People aged 50-64 years old with underlying medical conditions.

Please be advised that we are working with Hudson Pharmacy to provide COVID-19 Booster Vaccines onsite at Kendal. The exact dates will be announced soon. Note that COVID-19 Booster clinics held at Kendal will take place AFTER this year’s flu clinics are completed (after October 18).

The Hudson Pharmacy clinics will provide Pfizer vaccines only; if you were previously vaccinated at Kendal this is what you received. If you received your vaccine elsewhere and are unsure of which vaccine brand you received, please call the RCC (x1030) and we can assist you in researching this. Note: at this time, it is not recommended that those who received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines get Boosters.

If any resident is anxious to receive a Booster dose and wants to get their Booster vaccine independently of Kendal’s clinics, you may do so by obtaining a vaccine at your physician’s office or a participating pharmacy in the community. If you elect to do this, please bring your updated COVID-19 Vaccination card to the RCC so that we may copy it and record your latest dose.

Bell Ringing.jpg

The Bells are Back!

The first session of the Kendal Bell Ringers is scheduled for Wednesday, October 13, at 11 am in the Gathering Room.

Our group uses English hand bells; each ringer handles two bells (only two notes), but together they make lovely music.

We are eager to have new ringers. It’s fun and easy to learn. All are invited to join.

Questions: Call Peggy Pennell.
