After a hiatus of one week, the Trips Committee has arranged for a new trip, this one a visit to the Malcolm Pray Achievement Center, Bedford.
The trip will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
Participants will see antique cars collected by the philanthropist (1929-2013), who owned six foreign car dealerships in Greenwich and after retiring used his collection to inspire youths and teach them how to succeed in life. Highlights of the 35-car collection are a 1909 Ford Model T, the car that put the world on wheels; a 1934 Packard Twelve Dual Cowl Phaeton, from the Great Gatsby era, a reminder beautiful cars were made during the Depression; and a 1946 Chrysler Town and Country, with the war over, suburbs sprawling and families growing, a car for America with lots of chrome (Town) and handmade, steam-bent. wood-framed door panes (Country). Admission is free.
In addition there is one space available for the Wednesday Jan. 16 trip to the Katonah Museum of Art, Katonah: Docent tour of “Outrageous Ornament: Extreme Jewelry in the 21st Century,” 50 bold and innovative works by internationally renowned artists that reimagine the traditional boundaries of body adornment; curated by Jane Adlin, former curator of modern and contemporary design at the Met, the objects were created by traditional jewelers and also by individuals in art, architecture, fashion and design.
