The ever-hard-working Trips Committee has announced a new trip for Wednesday, March 18 to the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, CT.

There will be a docent tour of “On the Edge of the World,” masterworks by L.A. Ring (1854-1933) from the National Gallery of Denmark, the first exhibition solely devoted to this important Danish artist shown outside the Nordic region. Ring was both a Realist and Symbolist painter when his country was undergoing major changes and moving towards a modern industrialized society.

During free time two other exhibitions can be explored: “Under the Skin,” recent technological advances in images that allow scientists to visualize evolution that lies below the surface; and “Collecting Reimagined: A 2D Curiosity Cabinet;” two-dimensional cabinets on paper filled with printed images, photographs, textiles, and scrimshaw.

The Committee also wants you to know that there are short wait lists for two other trips:

Wednesday, March 4, Neuberger Museum of Art, SUNY Purchase. Current exhibitions include the Alexander Calder (1898-1976) Collection of sculpture, paintings and prints; “Isaac Julien: Western Union: Small Boats,” a video installation of Libyan “clandestines” journeying across the sea to escape war and famine; “Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922-1975): Subversive Prophet,” a two-part show about the Italian prolific poet, writer, and film director’s creative output and reception in the Americas; recent acquisitions; and the permanent collection of modern, contemporary and African art.

Wed, March 11, The Frick Collection, New York. See “Henry Arnhold’s Meissen Palace” in the Portico Gallery, an exhibition of works made in the famed Meissen porcelain factory in Saxony, now a German state, from the late collector.  Many pieces formerly belonged to Augustus II, Elector of Saxony and foremost patron of Meissen.  One of the few Gilded Age mansions still in Manhattan, its permanent collection has many Old Master paintings, European sculpture and decorative art.

Sign-up for all trips is in the Trips Book located in the Activities Alcove.
