Saturday Opera at Kendal continues.
The opera Billy Budd by Benjamin Britten is based on the unfinished novel of the same name by Herman Melville. It describes the tragic fate of a young sailor pressed into service on the HMS Indomitable during the French Wars of 1797.
The principal singers in John Dexter’s brilliant Metropolitan Opera production are Dwayne Croft as Billy, James Morris as his tormentor master-at-arms John Claggart, and Philip Langridge as Captain Vere.
