Other works from the permanent collection can also be viewed.

The sign-up sheet will be available at the Trips shelf opposite the Computer Room.

The rebirth of the Friendly Neighbors Program is underway, sponsored by the Health and Wellness Committee.

This volunteer program has been devised to help those in need of help with basic daily tasks on a one-time or short-term basis. Shopping for, reading the newspaper to and, in general just helping out needy neighbors makes this program a Kendal necessity.

An informational meeting will be held in the Gathering Room on Monday, October 30, at 3:30.

Please attend.

A Safe Halloween

Halloween Safety.jpg

As all of us who have been at Kendal for more than a year know, Sleepy Hollow is the Halloween Capital of the World. During the holiday, our beautiful little village becomes the visiting place for people from all over the Globe.

So--- if one takes it upon one's self to travel outside the cozy confines of KoH, safety first is a necessary rule to be observed.

Some common sense rules to be followed are:
1.  Drive slowly and be on the constant lookout for children.

2. Be bright at night. Reflective tape helps.

3.  Look all ways and be careful crossing streets.

4.  Just be on guard and careful at all times. Be safe!

HOOPLA!

Hoopla.jpg

Hoopla is not a cry of exaltation. What it is, is a new media lending program now available through the Warner Library to Kendal residents.

With Hoopla one can instantly borrow digital movies, music, eBooks and more 24/7 with your library card. The cards are available to all Kendal residents.

The Library and Computer Committees are sponsoring a hands-on demonstration of Hoopla by Warner Library staff on Tuesday, October 31 @ 3:00 pm in the Gathering Room.

All are invited.  Attendees should bring their Warner library cards and digital devices to learn and participate.

On Monday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 pm, Riverkeeper President Paul Gallay will be speaking at Kendal.

Gallay and his Riverkeeper team work to protect the Hudson River and the drinking water supplies for nine million New Yorkers.

An attorney and educator, Mr. Gallay has a long history in the environmental movement. That included a 10 year stint with the NY State Attorney General's Office and one with NY's Department of Environmental Conservation.

He has been the Riverkeeper President since 2010.

New Residents

Let's get the welcome mat out for two new resident couples. They are:

Richard and Priscilla Leibowitz. They are retired school teachers and are immigrating from Cortlandt Manor. They arrive on Kendal's shores October 16.

Bill and Stella Pence arrive on October 18. The Pences both worked in the film industry and founded the famous Telluride Film Festival. Coming to live with them is their Australian Shepherd, Clint. In addition they will bring along a horse (name not known) who will, luckily, be living in a nearby stable.

Let's look out for them and give them a great Kendal hello.

French Discussion Group

Parlez vous.png

Parlez vous français?
If you do-- or even if you don't and just want to be surrounded by the sweetness of the French language-- here's your opportunity.

A group gathers weekly in the Art Room to speak and read French. They meet on Mondays from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm.

Headed by Mimi Weare, she feels that even if you feel rather tentative about it, you can start out by listening and slowly transition yourself into speaking. Mimi assures us it is challenging and great fun!

If there are questions Mimi will be more than glad to answer them in either English or French.
