Verizon Service Needed for Channel 970?
If residents are having difficulty in getting Channel 970 on their TV, help from Verizon may be necessary.
This is a last call for Verizon Service. The list of residents who would like a Verizon representative to check their TV to potentially improve their Channel 970 reception will close at midnight on Wednesday, April 7.

Art Show Hanging Instructions
The Curators announced instructions for the exhibitors of the new Art Show, “Creativity in Solitude,” April 20 to October 15:
Please bring your work to the Art Room on Saturday, April 17, between 10:00 am and noon or 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
We have received so much excellent work that we may not have the space to hang it all. We will hang as many pieces as space allows.
Please make sure that there is a wire on the back of your artwork, since our hanging system can only accommodate wires. Please put on the back of your submission: (a) your name (b) your apartment number (c) your telephone number (d) the title of your artwork (e) medium (oil, etc.)

New DVD Collection
Kendal is never without great ideas on how to entertain its residents.
The Movie Committee is happy to announce a new DVD collection comprising hundreds of Leonore Meyers’ DVDs, which have been generously donated to KoH by her children. Leonore was the longstanding chair of Kendal’s Movie Committee
The DVDs are next to the Music CDs on Mary Powell’s 2nd floor (to your left if you walk up the stairs from the front desk, in front of you if you take the elevator from Adirondack). Borrowing is on the honor system.
We hope you will browse the new Collection, borrow some if you have a DVD player, and/or contact one of us to recommend some to show on channel 970.

Lecture: “Hudson River Museum Here and Now...and Coming Soon”
On April 5 Kendal will host a Zoom lecture, “The Hudson River Museum Here and Now... and Coming Soon”
In 2020, the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers was recognized by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation with an Art Museum Futures Fund for “visionary leadership, distinctive collections, and commitment to community, as well as historically overlooked artists and histories.”
Director and CEO since 2016 Masha Turchinsky oversees a $12.3 million capital expansion and improvement project that will inaugurate dedicated exhibition galleries and a sculpture court, a new community and partnership gallery, and state-of-the-art collection storage.
Prior to her Hudson River Museum appointment, Ms. Turchinsky worked for 19 years at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. As a consultant, she currently serves on ArtTable’s national Board of Directors dedicated to advancing the leadership of women in the arts. She holds an Ed.M. in International Educational Development from Columbia Teachers College, an MA in Education from NYU, and a BS in Russian from Georgetown.
Watch for the email Zoom invitation, and be sure to join us for this lecture. After all, it’s sort of our “hometown” museum and demands our attention and support.
COVID Update
Before getting to the weekly message from Kendal Management, it should be noted that the opening of the Dining Room for meals with fellow residents has done a great deal to improve the feeling of community throughout the entire Kendal population. Many smiles are detected. Many more on the way as the possibilities for person-to-person relationships improve.

• DINNER: Formal Dining Room open for reservations
Visitors and Visiting Programs
Independent Living is open to visitors from outside of Kendal
All outside visitors MUST enter through the main lobby and be COVID screened before proceeding to your residence.
Indoor common areas and Bistro/Formal Dining Room are reserved for Kendal residents only. Visitors are asked to visit in apartments and outdoors only. The terrace is open to visitors.
Limit of four guests per visit.
Clearwater, Sunnyside, and Adirondack Visitation Programs are “on pause”
Based on Department of Health guidance, all three neighborhoods will be eligible to “unpause” on April 7th. This is subject to change.
Residents of these neighborhoods may go on social outings off premises, and the DOH recently eliminated the need for a COVID test prior to returning.

April 6: Dr. Christen Cupples Cooper, Chair of Nutrition and Dietetics, Pace University, lectures on the U.S. Food System past and present, how we came to be a processed food country, and how food security and social justice are linked.
April 13: Mary Opfer, Registered Dietitian, Clinical Assistant Professor at Pace, discusses what foods in the Mediterranean Diet keep brain function and memory sharp and what foods in that diet help build and stabilize the immune system.
April 20, 27: Matt Ganis, IBMer and Adjunct Professor of Computer Science and Astronomy at Pace, fills us in on the Planet Mars and the current Perseverance mission.

Channel 970 Needs Volunteers
Though a mistake is occasionally made (see below), Channel 970 is one of Kendal’s most important entertainment and educational sources. It is run entirely by volunteers - that means Kendal residents.
To keep Channel 970 on air, we need volunteers to change DVDs one or two days a week. Once trained, it takes about 20 minutes to complete the job and is not technically difficult.
Over and above that, it is one of the most important tasks that residents can be part of. If you’re interested how a volunteer TV station works and want to be part of the team, call Sheila Darnborough to find out more.
Whoops! Rectifying an Error: Repeat of Great Tours TV Program
There will be a repeat of the Great Tours TV program because technical difficulties spoiled the broadcasts of last weekend’s scheduled lectures.
They will be shown again this weekend on Channel 970 as follows:

As a result of these problems, the remaining lectures in this course will be shown one week later than originally scheduled.

With the reopening of the Dining Room, it has become easier to entertain residents who have arrived at Kendal in the last few months. A dinner invitation is an excellent way to get to know our new neighbors and help them feel welcome.
