Sunday Concert & Saturday Opera

On Sunday, September 19, there will be a concert by Thomas Mesa, cello, and Ilya Yakushev, piano at 3 p.m. in the Gathering Room. They will be making their fourth and second Kendal appearances, respectively.

Cuban-American cellist Thomas Mesa has established himself as one of the most charismatic, innovative, and engaging performers of his generation.

Russian pianist Ilya Yakushev, with many awards and honors to his credit, continues to astound and mesmerize audiences at major venues on three continents. Their program will include works by Beethoven, Piazzolla, Nin, and Rachmaninoff.

The Saturday Opera program will continue with Part II of Hector Berlioz’s masterwork Les Troyens.

It will be shown in the Gathering Room on Saturday, September 18, at 1:00 p.m. 

The leading roles are sung by Placido Domingo (Aeneas), Tatiana Troyanos (Dido) and Jessye Norman (Cassandra).  James Levine conducts the Metropolitan Opera orchestra and chorus in this 1984 performance.
