New Course on "These Truths"

Truths.png

Kendal will offer a new course in January. It will be based on Jill Lepore’s new book, These Truths.

It is an old-fashioned textbook but one livelier than we remember them to be. The course will reach from the 16th century to our Civil War, but with prime attention to the founding of the republic. There will be a lot to cover in 4 meetings, but with Kendal’s own former Pulitzer Prize winner Bill McFeely leading it, it should be fascinating

The course will be offered on four Fridays, January 4, 11, 18, 25 at 10:30 in the Residents Office.

It will be limited to 15 members who are expected to read the book in advance. A Sign-up sheet will be available in the Activities Alcove Thursday, December 6.

Hint: Sign up ASAP. Bill’s courses fill up very quickly.

Library Books For Sale

The Library Committee wants to remind residents that they have an ongoing sale of great books available at the bargain price of $1.00 each

They further remind us not to overlook the sale shelves in the Library this holiday season! New titles have recently been added.

In addition the Library Committee has added a few new Large Print books to the permanent collection (not for sale). You should check the New To Us shelves for recent acquisitions published this year.

The Kendal Library is one of the great “pluses” we as Kendal residents have at our disposal.

Lecture: "Westchester County: A History"

Field Horne.png

On Monday, December 3, Kendal will be fortunate to have Field Horne, author of Westchester County: A History, as a guest lecturer

Lively and unexpected tales from Westchester County’s past will be the topic of his talk on his book which has been published by the Westchester County Historical Society.

The 257-page book, with over 225 illustrations, 110 in full color, is the first truly comprehensive history of the county in a series of publications dating back to 1848.

If you want to know more about the history of the county in which we all live, you’ll show up at the Gathering Room at 7:30 pm on Monday to hear Field Horne.

Christmas Toys at Kendal

Christmas Toys.jpg

TIME FOR CHRISTMAS TOYS!

Kendal can help some children in our neighborhood have a joyous holiday, instead of a slim one, by putting a toy or book in the Christmas box on top of the piano in the Residents Lounge anytime in the next two weeks.

The Kendal Local Charities Committee empties the box every night and takes all the gifts to the RHSM Lifecenter and Open Door who make the distributions. A stuffed animal, a game, a doll, a toy truck can be a very special treat for some small person in Sleepy Hollow this Christmas. Thank you for helping.
