Volunteer Community Service Survey

Volunteer.jpg

Kendal recently issued a survey asking residents to let it know if they are doing volunteer work in not-for-profit or governmental organizations outside of Kendal.

We thank the many residents who have responded, not only for completing the survey but also for all they do in the community.

If you have not responded, please do so by October 18. If you need another form, contact Harriet Barnett.

Residents are asked to fill out the survey as soon as possible since it will be closed shortly.

Early Voting for the November Election

Early.jpg

Information has come our way that you may vote early at the Joseph G. Caputo Community Center which is located at 95 Broadway in Ossining. (It's a street off of Highland just after you pass through the main area of town and at the bottom of a hill. There is a landmark bank building on the right and a left turn lane to Broadway. Also a marker for something related to Sing Sing).

The Center will be open for early voting from Saturday, October 24 through Sunday, November 1 from 12 noon to 5 pm. On the 26th, 28th, and 30th, they will be open from 8 am to 4 pm.

Chat with Pamela

Pamela Klapproth.png

Kendal’s CEO Pamela Klapproth will be hosting an In-Person Chat with up to 17 residents on Tuesday, October 13, 9:30 am—10:30 am in the Gathering Room.

With meeting limitations slightly liberalized, Pamela felt that actual face-to-face meetings would now be possible and desirable.

Residents are requested to call Jordan DiPaolo if they would like to sign up.

Space is obviously limited so an early call is suggested.

Interested in Information Technologies (IT)?

If so, you are invited to attend a meeting of the KoH Residents Computer Committee, Friday, October 9, at 3 pm in the Gathering Room.

The Committee helps residents with their computers, tablets, and smartphones; provides and maintains computers and copiers in the Computer Room and KoH Library; helps run Zoom meetings; tries to learn more about digital devices and software, and runs in-person workshops for residents when possible.

Peter Bermas and Caroline Persell are Co-chairs and can be contacted for further information.

Architecture and Columbus, Indiana

Columbus, Indiana.jpg

Admit it! You always thought that the meaningful architecture in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles set the tone for all cities and suburbs throughout the nation. However, it didn’t for Columbus, Indiana.

The why and the what will be the subject of a Kendal Zoom Webinar: “Columbus, Indiana: How modern architecture has helped shape a small town’s future” on Monday, October 5, at 7:30 pm.

For over 70 years, Columbus, Indiana has been committed to using design to make a better community for all of its citizens. Will Miller, a special friend of Nancy and Hank Schacht, will tell the story of the architecture and its effects on the town, how it has come to both reflect the community’s sense of place and to shape it.

A leader in business, civic revitalization, and philanthropy, Will Miller became the second president of the Wallace Foundation in 2011 and is former chair of Irwin Management, a privately owned investment management firm in Columbus.

He co-chaired Vision 2020, a major civic investment initiative focused on rebuilding Columbus’ city center. He serves on the board of Cummins, Inc. In 2008 he was elected a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He holds a BA in English from Yale and an MBA from Stanford.

To attend this Webinar, residents will receive an email from Jeff O’Donnell, Saturday, October 3, inviting them to register. They should click on the link provided and enter first and last names, along with their email address.

Jeff informs us, “When you click Register, a new tab will open in your browser saying click the link below to join the Zoom Webinar. You will be reminded one day before and one hour before the lecture. Please click the link 15 minutes or so before the lecture, which will start at 7:30 pm. Your audio will be automatically muted, and your video will not be shown.”

Give and Take Table Returns

IMG_3402 (1).jpg

According to organizers Sharry and Art Lukach, “the Give and Take Table is once again in operation. From 9 am Thursday, October 1 until 5 pm Wednesday, October 7, all our treasures will be on show and be yours for the taking. Of course, you are invited to contribute your delightful odds and ends— just remember we can’t display FOOD, CLOTHING, or SHARP OBJECTS.

Please wear your mask, use the hand sanitizer provided, and maintain social distancing. Because the area is narrow and we can’t arrange directional traffic, we must ask you to limit the number of people at the tables to 2 or 3, spaced 6 feet apart. If more people are present, please take a seat at the elevator area and possess your good, kind, souls with patience.

Please keep the line moving, get/give some good stuff, and enjoy the swapping!”
