New Trip

Stonecrop Gardens.jpg

The Trips Committee under the leadership of Jan Myers announced a new excursion set for Wednesday, July 21 to Stonecrop Gardens, Cold Spring.

The group will explore a series of display gardens and a conservatory on 12 acres in the Hudson Highlands. Originally the home of Frank Cabot, founder of the Garden Conservancy, it became a public garden in 1992.

The diverse of gardens range from an enclosed English-style flower garden and perennial gardens to water gardens, a grass garden, a rock garden on a cliff, and an alpine stone garden. Some plants are for sale.

Examine the picture closely. It’s not what you think at first glance.

Lunch will be at a nearby restaurant.

N.B. To coordinate with Spotlight, sign-up sheets are usually put in the Trips Book in the Activities Alcove on Fridays, though not always. The wait list is open until the day of departure.

"STAYING ALIVE": FITTING FITNESS INTO YOUR LIFE

Fitness5.png

We all know that keeping fit plays an important part, as the old Bee Gees song tells us, of "Staying Alive”. Are we doing it, and are we doing it properly? How do we know and are we doing enough?

The Contemporary Issues Discussion Group (CIDG) will host a Zoom fitness discussion with Cathy DiSomma, Kendal's Fitness Coordinator. Cathy is a graduate of Fordham University and an Adjunct Professor at Westchester Community College. In addition, she is a licensed dietician.

The discussion with Cathy will take place on Thursday, June 24 at 10:00 am on Zoom and is open to all residents. If you do not regularly receive CIDG meeting notifications, contact Gene DuBow.

Cluster Care

Angels on Call.jpg

The Health Center announced a new program, developed with Angels on Call, to assist Kendal’s Independent Residents with short periods of help from licensed aides. Angel aides can be there, whether it is helping you get ready for the day, doing household chores, or supporting you on the way to a doctor's appointment.

For more information, you will find brochures available in the Resident Care Center.

Residents' Herb Garden

Herb Garden.png

Janet Schloat informs us that the Residents’ Herb Garden has exploded! Mint, marjoram, thyme, garlic chives, parsley, sage and lavender are ready to pick and enjoy.

Visit the Terrace with your clippers, and clip some of these herbs for cooking or to put into a small vase—pinch them occasionally to enhance the wonderful fragrances.

Please do NOT pick the basil for a few more weeks—it still needs time! And please clip sparingly, to leave some for others to enjoy.
