Workshop with Ann Lasusa.png

There is a great opportunity to attend a workshop given by one of Kendal’s most accomplished artists Ann Lasusa.

If you sign up, you can expect to have fun and bring forth your creativity at a mixed-media workshop in two parts on Friday, January 17 and Friday, January 24, from 10 am to noon in the Art Room.

This is free and open to everyone—no experience is required; all materials are provided. To register for these sessions, contact Ann Lasusa directly. Do it soon, as enrollment is limited to seven!

Drop-In Art Salon

If you would enjoy working on art in the company of others, come to the Art Room on Monday between 10 am and noon.

This time has been set aside (on an experimental basis) for residents to get together and do art together.

No set program, no leader—just a casual gathering of artists and aspiring artists. Show your interest by coming every Monday morning ... and bring a friend.

There is an unconfirmed rumor that Rembrandt started by just dropping in to the salon in his hometown. Try it! You may be off and running on a new career or hobby.

Personal Growth Workshop

Personal Growth 2.png

On Saturday, January 18, in the Riverview Conference Room, Myron Gordon will continue the small group interactional workshops with the theme, “Using My Story for Personal Growth.”

Sharing stories is a powerful device for promoting connection, community, and self- realization. The aim is to increase awareness of the positive and negative influences of past experiences. The positive ones will be used to reinforce our sense of security and intactness, while the distressing ones will be reframed and made more tolerable. Using specific ground rules, members offer and receive at their own pace.

Date: January 18

Time: 10:30 am - 12:30 pm

Place: RCR (C Level near Fulton Bridge)

Sign-up: Please get in touch directly with Myron Gordon

“Fun with Photography: What You Can Do With your Camera” A Talk by Arthur Brady Jan. 6

Kodak Brownie Hawkeye flash.png

Arthur Brady’s interest in photography was inspired by his Dad, who took many great family photos.  For his 11th birthday, Arthur received a Brownie Hawkeye flash camera (above).  He still has that “classic” camera. Arthur’s photo collection, now mostly digitized, goes back to the 1950s.

Since photography was a lifelong interest, Arthur has well over 100,000 photos, some in regular photo albums and many more in digital format.

Arthur is one of the Kendal View photography editors, and many of his photos can be seen on the residents’ website.

Join us on Monday, January 6, at 7:30 pm in the Gathering Room to hear his talk: “Fun with Photography.”  Smile! (click)

2020.jpg

Participation in this year’s New Year’s Eve celebration was greater than ever before – for the residents and also the staff.

More than 150 residents watched the show, and more than 35 performed in it. Some 15 residents served on Sally Costa’s committee for party decorations and refreshments for our Champagne and Caviar Reception.  And this year, for the first time, dinner featured waiter service for all.

The Kendal Singers, led by Bob Singleton, performed and were accompanied by Lila D’Adolf .

This year’s show, produced by Muriel Fox with co- producers Jo-Ann Rapaport and Harry Phillips, featured David Sampliner, Bill Rakower, Norman Sissman, Peter Limburg, Jane Hart, Roberta Poupon, Llyn Clague, and Frank Neuwirth.  Eugene DuBow lowered our glittering silver ball to a loud countdown at Kendal Midnight, which is 9 pm.

Sally Costa offers “A big thank you to all who helped with the decorating of the Residents Lounge, the New Year’s Eve flier and its distribution. We couldn’t have done it without everyone pitching in.”
